Kate Nash

Falling down a flight of stairs and breaking your foot is usually not considered a lucky break - but for Kate Nash, it certainly was. Her recuperation period gave her time to conjur up a bevy of songs, and, foot mended, she quit her job in River Island and embarked on a career in music - and what a whirlwind journey it's been so far for the North Londoner.
From playing small pub gigs, she put her music on MySpace and released a single "Caroline's A Victim", which had to be reprinted due to popular demand. This alerted Polydor offshoot Fiction Records to pursue her signature, and "Foundations" was released soon after, surprising everyone by sneaking into the charts at No.2 and staying put. Radio One and Two signed up instantly as fans, and suddenly, Nash was a star. Her jaunty, storytelling, colloquial style saw her compared to Lily Allen, and public interest in the ballsy, outspoken star was piqued.
Riding on the back of that success, Nash rush-released her debut album "Made Of Bricks" in summer 2007, and it effortlessly strolled to the top spot. Appearances at Glastonbury, Isle of Wight and the O2 Wireless festivals confirmed her arrival, and her appearance on Jools Holland cemented it.
