Along with Pentagram, Saint Vitus are considered one of the pioneers of doom metal. They sound like a bigger, slower Sabbath. The band formed in 1979. They were originally called Tyrant. Scott "Wino" Weinrich joined in 1986. He had been the singer for fellow doom metallers the Obsessed. Today, Wino plays in the space-traveling stoner metal band Spirit Caravan. Although unsuccessful in the U.S., Saint Vitus had fans in Europe and toured there before breaking up for good in 1995.
